I live alone. I woke up at approximately 4am having difficulty breathing. I moved from the bed to an upright chair to see if that would improve the condition. I also took my blood pressure and pulse, and both were normal. Because the breathing did not improve, I pressed my Life Alert necklace button. The Life Alert operator responded immediately. After describing my problem, the operator activated an emergency response - staying on line with me offering comfort. The local fire department arrived within 15 minutes, and an ambulance shortly thereafter. The fire department personnel checked my vitals. They concurred that my vitals were normal. With my concurrence, they transported me to the emergency room of a hospital I chose. The Life Alert operator monitored the proceedings, and later notified all my designated back-up individuals.
